Wizz Air to equip new generation aircraft with Starlink from 2027
Wizz Air plans to equip new-generation aircraft with Starlink from 2027, positioning itself as a pioneer among European ultra-low-cost carriers. The airline operates about 265 Airbus A320 family aircraft, including 63 older models that could be upgraded. Starlink, owned by SpaceX, uses a vast satellite network to deliver onboard internet access. Ian Malin, Wizz Air’s chief commercial officer, says ultra-low-cost travel should include reliable connectivity, while rivals Ryanair and easyJet have rejected Starlink for their fleets. The project targets new-generation A320neo-family jets, with roughly 200 planes in Wizz Air’s fleet suitable for installation, as the carrier expands from its Hungary base and pursues broader passenger connectivity.
