Denbighshire highways team adds new electric vehicle to fleet

The Denbighshire fleet expands its electrification drive with the addition of a Citroën ë-C5 Aircross, replacing an end-of-life fossil-fuel vehicle. The fully electric SUV delivers a real-world range of more than 400 miles and will be used by the highways major projects team to travel to meetings, inspect sites, and supervise construction work across the county. Denbighshire County Council has linked the move to its climate and nature emergency declaration from 2019 and its broader fleet decarbonisation program. The council states that more than 20 percent of its fleet is now zero-emission, a figure supported by funding from Welsh and UK government departments aimed at cutting emissions, lowering fuel costs, and reducing maintenance expenses. The council has trained highways staff in EV use, including safe charging and regenerative braking, and the service maintains 1,400 kilometres of roads. The Citroën ë-C5 Aircross is expected to deliver long-term savings on running costs and further reduce the council's environmental impact as it expands its zero-emission fleet.
