Marc Marquez insists he is "not ready" for MotoGP title fight despite dominant Hungary win
Marc Marquez says he is not ready to fight for the 2026 MotoGP title, despite a dominant Hungary win. The factory Ducati rider claimed his first grand prix victory of 2026 at the Balaton Park Circuit, beating KTM's Pedro Acosta in a straight sprint. The result coincided with a nightmare for Aprilia as Jorge Martin triggered an opening-lap clash that also took out his teammate Bezzecchi and Raul Fernandez. Marquez acknowledged that his ongoing shoulder rehab could limit his pace for some time, signaling that the next two tracks, Brno and Assen, may prove more demanding for the right shoulder. He emphasized that the season is long and that he is not yet in shape to contend.
Asked about his readiness to attack the title, Marquez said he would like to say yes, but he believes he has more to lose than to win while others are excited by his victory. He intends to reach a new 100% and will understand his position only then, noting that he will continue to race with the same intensity. He avoided delving into Aprilia's incident and instead focused on Ducati's performance over the season. The rider added that if he is here, it's to fight every race and practice, maintaining his commitment to the season's long arc.
