Bars to stay open until 3 in the morning for World Cup fans

Massachusetts will temporarily extend alcohol service to 3 a.m. and allow public drinking in designated areas through July 31, a measure Gov. Maura Healey signed to capitalize on World Cup crowds and other events. Last-call statewide moves from 2 a.m. to 3 a.m., and localities can designate areas for consumption. Healey said the extension will support bars and restaurants and boost downtowns as World Cup matches bring visitors, including seven games at Gillette Stadium from June 13 to July 9. MADD supported a uniform last-call to curb bar hopping and drunken driving amid a busy summer of events.
