AerCap Takes More Boeing 787-9s | Aviation Week

AerCap placed an additional order for 15 Boeing 787-9 aircraft at the Farnborough Airshow in England, with the ability to switch to the larger 787-10 if demand trends justify it. The announcement comes as AerCap’s prior 787 commitments totaled 125, with only nine remaining deliveries, making the lessor the largest 787 owner but with limited availability of additional widebodies. The new jets will be powered by GE Aerospace GEnx-1B engines, and no delivery schedule was disclosed. However, deliveries from earlier orders are set to run through the third quarter of 2028. The deal reflects broader lessor interest in widebody leasing amid strong market demand. AerCap’s stated customer base includes Virgin Atlantic, Thai Airways, LATAM Airlines, KLM, EgyptAir and Air Europa, according to Aviation Week’s Fleet Discovery database. AerCap’s closest competitor, SMBC Aviation Capital, benefits from Air Lease Corporation’s widebody order book.
