Air India to deploy new Boeing 787-9 on Delhi-Toronto route, remove Vienna fuel stop from August 1

Air India will deploy a new Boeing 787-9 on the Delhi–Toronto route from August 1, removing the existing enroute fuel stop in Vienna, subject to available airspace. The change is expected to cut Delhi-to-Toronto flight time by nearly three hours, from about 20 hours (including the stop) to around 17 hours, while the Toronto-to-Delhi return flight will remain non-stop with a duration of up to 16 hours. Air India also plans to increase frequency from five flights per week to daily starting August 1, after temporarily reducing service in June and July 2026 due to unprecedented fuel price increases and broader geopolitical developments. The airline says the 787-9 will offer a three-class cabin: 30 Business Class suites, 28 Premium Economy seats and 238 Economy seats. Premium Economy will be introduced on this route, and Business Class features direct aisle access and 79-inch fully flat beds. Additional details include 4K QLED HDR touchscreens across cabins, over 3,000 hours of inflight entertainment content, and mood lighting inspired by ancient Indian wellness traditions, plus refreshed Indian and international menus.
