Air traffic control audio has revealed a tense near-collision at Boston Logan International Airport on Saturday involving a Delta flight preparing to land and an American Airlines flight cleared for takeoff. The incident occurred at about 11:34 a.m. ET, when the two aircraft came within roughly 300 feet, according to FlightRadar24 data reviewed by former Boeing safety engineer Todd Curtis. Archived radio communications posted on LiveATC.net show the Delta pilot, arriving from Dallas, announcing a go-around to avoid the American aircraft heading to Charlotte, North Carolina. After the Delta jet abandoned its initial landing, controllers repeatedly instructed it to maintain 3,000 feet twice, and the aircraft landed about 10 minutes later at 11:45 a.m. ET. Delta said the crew received an onboard advisory about potential traffic and that 129 passengers and six crew members got off safely. The FAA confirmed the go-around was prompted because American was departing from an intersecting runway.
