Aircraft with smoke in cockpit makes emergency landing at Portland Jetport
An aircraft with smoke in the cockpit made an emergency landing at Portland Jetport on Saturday afternoon, according to alerts from Maine first responders. Delta Air Lines Flight 5860, flying from Portland International Jetport to LaGuardia Airport in New York City, declared an emergency at about 1:30 p.m. after reporting smoke in the cockpit. A follow-up alert said 78 people were aboard, and that everyone landed safely. Airport rescue teams were activated for a full emergency response, and the Portland Fire Department’s aircraft rescue and firefighting unit evaluated the aircraft after touchdown. The plane then taxied to the gate and passengers deplaned using the passenger boarding bridge, the airport’s assistant director said. Delta is working to accommodate affected passengers.
