Airline Reveals Cause of Terrifying Cabin Smoke Emergency

Swiss International Airlines says smoke that filled the business-class cabin of flight LX16 and triggered an emergency landing was caused by a damaged headphone charging case. The aircraft was traveling Monday from Zurich to John F. Kennedy International Airport, but made an unscheduled landing in Bangor, Maine. After landing, technicians found the charging case had slipped between two seats and became damaged. Swiss said all 208 people aboard the 14-year-old Airbus A330 returned safely. On Thursday, the airline also noted that while power banks are generally allowed as carry-on luggage, Swiss banned their use in the cabin earlier this year, though passengers can still bring them as hand luggage. The Bangor runway was temporarily closed for about half an hour, per a spokesperson.
