Airlines 737-800 overruns on landing at Siberian airport
Airline operations came under scrutiny after a Boeing 737-800 overran the runway on landing at Mirny airport in Russia’s Sakha Republic on 30 June. The S7 Airlines aircraft came to rest on rough, muddy ground after overrunning runway 25, according to the West Siberian transport prosecutor’s office. There were 173 passengers and six crew members aboard, and investigators reported no injuries. Images from the prosecutor’s office identified the airframe as RA-73359. The flight arrived from Novosibirsk as S75241. Investigators said cause and circumstances are being probed, and “oversight activities” have been launched to check compliance with flight safety rules. Meteorological data cited rain showers and cumulonimbus cloud near the airport at the time.
