Airlines bet on Norway-England World Cup clash
Airlines are leaning into World Cup drama with a playful logo-bet ahead of the Norway vs. England quarterfinal on July 11. On July 8, Norwegian Air Shuttle issued the challenge to British Airways via Instagram, asking if BA was willing to risk its logo. The rules were that if Norway wins, British Airways would have to switch to Norwegian’s logo on Sunday, and vice versa. British Airways responded with a comment urging Norway not to make bets it couldn’t win, and the back-and-forth turned into banter, including references to England’s “it’s coming home” chant. On July 10, Norwegian announced the bet was on after BA accepted in an Instagram comment. Norway, led by Erling Haaland, reached the quarterfinals for the first time in 28 years, while England is No. 4 and Norway No. 19 in FIFA rankings.
