Airlines Plan 'Rescue Flights' For Stranded Israelis In UAE After FlyDubai Incident

El Al announced Friday it canceled planned “rescue flights” from Dubai because the UAE withdrew landing permits for Israeli carriers. The airline said it was forced to cancel at this stage due to the lack of approval and added it remains ready to operate charter flights to Dubai once it receives official permission. Emirati authorities have not explained the permit withdrawal. The decision followed the FlyDubai incident in which the copilot allegedly stabbed the captain and tried to crash the aircraft; other FlyDubai pilots made an emergency landing in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. Israel’s officials quickly called the incident terrorism, and politics have intensified ahead of Israel’s October 27 Knesset elections.
