Airport's £500m capital project takes flight as all eyes on continued expansion

Edinburgh Airport has begun work on a £500 million, five-year capital programme aimed at supporting future growth. The project is described as the first phase of a broader “investment vision” that includes new gates, additional aircraft stands, and an expanded check-in hall and departure lounge. The terminal footprint will increase by 60%, with added retail and food areas, international arrivals facilities and baggage reclaim space. During a tour of the South East Pier extension, First Minister John Swinney said the upgrade will help Edinburgh Airport “compete with airports around the world,” strengthen Scotland’s international connections and drive economic growth. Airport chief executive Gordon Dewar said passenger numbers rose 85% under his leadership.
