Akasa Air and BPCL operate commercial flight using 1% sustainable aviation fuel

Akasa Air completed a commercial flight on September 8 using conventional aviation turbine fuel blended with 1% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), supplied by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL). The carrier said the flight departed Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai at 13:05 IST and arrived at Manohar International Airport (GOX), Goa, at 14:30 IST. The effort follows a memorandum of understanding signed by Akasa Air and BPCL in July 2026 to explore SAF adoption and other steps for aviation decarbonisation, including a framework for SAF-blended ATF supply and offtake at designated Indian airports. Akasa’s CFO Ankur Goel said scaling SAF will require coordinated ecosystem action, and the airline pointed to its Boeing 737 MAX fleet and CFM International LEAP-1B engines.
