American Airlines, Google expand SAF certificate agreement
American Airlines in Fort Worth, Texas, and Google have signed a sustainable aviation fuel certificate (SAFc) agreement to expand lower-carbon fuel production without moving fuel to every site. The arrangement covers SAF certificates tied to 35 million gallons over three years. American will take delivery through existing infrastructure at Chicago O'Hare International Airport; Google will receive environmental attributes through a book-and-claim system. Certificate programs help fuel adoption by separating the environmental benefits from the physical product, enabling producers to secure financing and future projects. The deal also supports a long-term offtake with Valero Marketing and Supply Company, with Kate Brandt of Google praising the collaboration.
