Another airline shut down in bankruptcy, to liquidate
Another airline shut down in bankruptcy, marking the end of Eastern Airways after its collapse and liquidation process. The regional carrier, founded in 1997 to serve England’s East Midlands, was placed into administration in October 2025. Based at Humberside Airport, it operated flights across northern England and Scotland, plus a route to London Gatwick (LGW). On Oct. 27, it notified travelers that all flights were canceled after a key contract with KLM for four aircraft for the Dutch carrier’s Cityhopper was terminated at the last minute. Administrators from RSM were appointed a day later, and the airline had not flown since. RSM pursued possible bidders but a rescue effort failed when a preferred party withdrew in December 2025 over “tight timescales” and the need for “significant” funding, after an initial payment of just over £286,000 (about $376,000). Eastern Airways’ seven Jetstream 41s and some Embraer aircraft are now marked for liquidation under an asset-purchase agreement, with assets sold to an unnamed third party.
