Barcelona Airport is activated as an alternate international terminal reports that G/D José Antonio Anzoátegui International Airport in Barcelona has been used as an alternate terminal for international flights since Thursday, July 2. The shift is due to damage at Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía, La Guaira state, caused by earthquakes. The operational deployment was overseen by the Secretary General of the Government, Katiuska Homsi, and state tourism authority Doryel Salazar, who visited the terminal facilities. Authorities said 53 passengers arrived from Laser Airlines on the first enabled contingency flight from Miami to Barcelona, and Laser plans a daily schedule with boarding options between Barcelona and Miami. In Venezuela, Avior Airlines began a contingency plan on July 3, with three weekly domestic flights from Barcelona to Maracaibo and weekly international flights from Barcelona to Bogotá and Medellín.
