Boeing 777-9 Fleet Reaches 4,800 Test Hours As 7th Airframe Will Conduct ETOPS Certification

The seventh Boeing 777-9 airframe took flight on July 29, marking 4,800 test hours for the 777X program and starting the jet’s ETOPS certification work. The milestone arrives about six years after the initially planned launch, reflecting a long path through production recovery after the 737 MAX crisis. Boeing has regained Federal Aviation Administration trust and is ramping 777-9 production toward earlier capacity levels, though early prototypes have shown age. The 777-9 debuted alongside reports that US carriers could add 777X aircraft, with United Airlines discussed as a potential first US customer. Emirates has refused delivery of the first 10 to 11 early-build planes.
