Boeing asks US to intervene over record EU loan to Airbus

Boeing has asked the U.S. government to pressure the European Union over a record €3 billion ($3.43 billion) loan package for Airbus, arguing the terms should be transparent. The request follows the extension of a tariff truce on jet subsidies, which was originally set to expire on July 6 but was extended indefinitely as both sides avoid a renewed aerospace trade war. In a letter to U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, Boeing said the European Investment Bank’s June 29 announcement—just four days after the EU extended the standstill agreement—came with an initial €1 billion tranche. Boeing cited concerns under a 2021 truce requiring an open, transparent process. Greer said the USTR is reviewing the loan closely with European counterparts and raised the compatibility of any “unfair loans” with market-based systems. The EIB said the funding is normal, interest-bearing financing and denied unusual support to Airbus.
