BRICS, India's Modi warns geopolitical tensions and supply chain shocks threaten global stability

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi warned at the BRICS summit in New Delhi that geopolitical tensions, supply-chain disruptions, and climate crises are increasingly affecting people worldwide. Speaking on the bloc’s second day, Modi said strengthening cooperation across the Global South is essential, and cautioned that “weaponization of technology and critical minerals” could block development and shared prosperity. BRICS, founded in 2006 by Brazil, Russia, India and China, has expanded to 11 members representing about half the world’s population. Modi also said integrated early warning systems for infectious diseases would be established, and urged leaders to turn summit agreements into “real-life impact” with timelines. The joint declaration reiterated support for a multipolar world, reforms to the UN and opposed unilateral sanctions, while calling for cooperation on food security, energy, digital infrastructure, AI, and climate action.
