Britain to allocate €300 million to Ukraine for the purchase of Gripen fighter jets as the UK prepares to provide Kyiv with funding for a specific air-power upgrade. The UK government said it will deliver €300 million in aid to buy 16 multirole Gripen fighter jets for Ukraine. According to a release from Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s office, the package is scheduled to enable Kyiv to form a squadron of 16 Swedish Gripen E multirole fighters by 2029. It also covers training for pilots and engineering and technical personnel, along with simulators, spare parts, and other equipment required for service entry and frontline deployment. Defense publications previously estimated the total contract value for the 16 Gripen E jets at €2.2 billion. The statement was issued during Starmer’s trip to Kyiv, his last foreign visit as prime minister, before he is expected to leave office on July 20.
