Charter flights to Alamein rise 50% this summer: Egypt tourism minister - Urban & Transport - Egypt

Charter flights arriving at Alamein International Airport rose 50% this summer compared with the same period last year, Tourism and Antiquities Minister Sherif Fathy said Monday. Fathy also cited a 540% increase in charter flights during the same period a year earlier. The figures refer to incoming charter flights, while overall traffic at Alamein includes other types of service. To handle the growth, the Ministry of Civil Aviation is expanding the airport, Fathy added. He and Civil Aviation Minister Sameh Elhefny discussed the trend during the first Al-Ahram Forum for Egyptian Tourism, held at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization under the auspices of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly. The ministers linked tourism performance to infrastructure and coordination between ministries, and Elhefny said efforts include strengthening national airlines, adding air connections, expanding capacity, and using digital services at airports, including coordination on electronic gates and the visa-on-arrival digital system that began first at Cairo in early August. Industry representatives urged faster licensing and clearer investor pricing.
