Commercial Pilot, 46, Dies Suddenly During Long Layover

A 46-year-old pilot, Sunny Asladekar, was found dead in his hotel room during an overnight layover in New Delhi, Air India confirmed. The airline said Asladekar died Sept. 11 at The Grand Hotel and that he was due to fly an international long-haul route the following day. Local reports say his brother alerted authorities after he did not answer his phone, and the hotel manager discovered his body. Authorities have not released the cause of death. The Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) asked India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation for an urgent review of fatigue-management practices, including rostering, recovery, medical surveillance, and the effectiveness of fatigue risk management systems. Media reports said Asladekar was scheduled to fly from New Delhi to Seoul, South Korea.
