Crash in Khmelnytskyi Oblast: the SBI says it has questioned witnesses and completed DNA identification for two Ukrainian servicemen killed in an aircraft crash on 16 June 2026. Investigators reported that the flight was the aircraft’s second mission of the day and that technical personnel found no faults with the Su-24M before either sortie, with required documentation completed under regulations. The SBI also dismissed online claims that one pilot ejected, saying those reports were false. As part of the investigation, detectives conducted dozens of interviews with family members, commanders and fellow personnel, and witnesses said both pilots passed required medical examinations before the sortie and reported no health concerns. Molecular genetic testing confirmed their identities through DNA. The SBI notes an internal Air Force investigation is ongoing, and after it concludes an independent aviation technical examination will be commissioned; the pre-trial case is under Article 416.2 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code.
