Current and Former Spacex Employees Become Millionaires After IPO Including Cafeteria Workers
SpaceX employees are mapping out plans to spend their anticipated wealth from the company’s IPO, with luxury real estate, high-end watches, and private jet travel among the top wishes. CNBC reports the IPO is expected to create thousands of new millionaires and several billionaires across the workforce, with lockup periods delaying sales. Real estate near SpaceX facilities, including California’s South Bay neighborhoods and Austin, Texas, is already seeing increased interest. Gerard Bisignano of Vista Sotheby’s notes inquiries from SpaceX employees seeking homes in affluent California communities such as Manhattan Beach and Palos Verdes Estates. He cautions that the windfall could mirror the post-Facebook IPO era, when nearby property values rose significantly. Some buyers plan to use margin loans, while others wait for lockups to expire, with demand also extending to luxury condos on Lake Austin or Lake Travis and large ranches in outlying areas.
