Dead as jet nosedives and erupts into fireball near busy roadway in South Florida
A Learjet 60 carrying nine people crashed in Palm Beach County, South Florida on Sunday at 12:50 p.m., nose-diving into a neighborhood near a busy roadway and erupting into a large fireball. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said everyone on board died and called it a “horrific tragedy,” adding that the FAA is sending resources to support the National Transportation Safety Board investigation. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis reported no immediate ground casualties. The aircraft departed Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, Texas, bound for the Bahamas. Flight tracking and air traffic control recordings show the pilots reported turbulence, icing and precipitation, requested climb clearance, then entered an extreme descent with overspeed before declaring an emergency.
