Delta flight makes emergency landing due to smoke in cabin

A Delta Air Lines flight traveling from Barcelona to Boston made an emergency landing in Portugal after smoke was detected in the cabin on Sunday. Delta Flight 251 diverted to Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport in Porto, Portugal, according to a Delta spokesperson, due to what the airline described as a mechanical issue. Delta said fumes were detected on board, and after landing Portuguese emergency responders treated passengers. The flight departed Barcelona at 3:15 p.m. and arrived in Porto at 5:45 p.m. local time, per Flightradar24. Reuters reported that eight passengers were treated on the tarmac and three others were hospitalized. The aircraft carried 283 passengers and 13 crew members. In a statement, Delta said the flight landed safely and apologized for the delay while it worked to get passengers to Boston.
