Direct flights from London to Sydney to go on sale from next year
Direct flights from London to Sydney will begin in October 2027, marking a milestone for Qantas and long-haul travel. The airline says the non-stop London–Sydney service could take up to 22 hours, potentially making it the longest commercial flight in history. Tickets are expected to go on sale from February next year. Qantas has ordered 12 Airbus A350-1000ULR aircraft, configured for 238 seats across four cabins—First Class, Business, Premium Economy and Economy—and fitted with an additional 20,000-litre fuel tank to extend range beyond 16,000 kilometres. The route would supplement existing Perth–London and Sydney–Singapore–London operations as part of Project Sunrise. The plan has been welcomed by UK Tourism Minister Stephanie Peacock and VisitBritain’s Patricia Yates, who highlighted the tourism benefits, while Vanessa Hudson, Qantas CEO, emphasized Australia’s long-haul ambitions and the goal of eliminating the final stop on the Kangaroo Route.
