DoorDash launches in-house drone unit -- "cleared for takeoff"
xCruzo Brief
DoorDash says it has received Federal Aviation Administration Part 135 air carrier certification, clearing the way for an in-house drone delivery program called DoorDash Air. The certification authorizes DoorDash to operate as an air carrier and deliver a more integrated drone experience for local merchants, the company said. DoorDash is only the eighth drone operator to earn Part 135, after passing a five-stage FAA evaluation covering airworthiness, maintenance programs, and safety procedures. DoorDash says drones delivered in an estimated average of 25 minutes last year, and some pilot locations saw order volume rise by about 30%. Human Dashers will still handle apartment drops and large orders.
