DoorDash is moving toward drone-powered food delivery through a new initiative called DoorDash Air, aimed at expanding beyond what it says current local-delivery methods can cover. The company says it has received clearance from the Federal Aviation Administration, positioning it for a near-term start of drone deliveries. In its announcement, DoorDash described the drones as purpose-built for gaps in local commerce, complementing short- and long-range designs from partners. DoorDash also claims its aircraft is “American-designed and built,” with most components manufactured in the United States—an assertion it highlights because many drones in the industry are made in China.
