Two Embraer jets flew dramatically low over a packed rugby stadium in Cape Town, South Africa, drawing huge cheers for a pregame stunt but also raising serious questions about safety. The flyby, operated by Airlink, took place Saturday before the South Africa vs. New Zealand match. Flight tracking estimated the lead aircraft passed about 41 to 46 feet (12 to 14 meters) above Cape Town Stadium’s roof, with a second jet trailing through pink dust from the show. Airlink said the formation was carefully planned and rehearsed at roughly 150 knots (278 kph) and that no passengers were onboard. The airline said South African Civil Aviation Authority and Air Traffic Navigation Services provided approval and guidance.
