Drone footage shows extent of huge blaze at disused campus
Drone footage captured the scale of a major fire at a disused university campus in Liverpool on Saturday, October 17. Emergency services were alerted at 3:41pm and arrived nine minutes later at the IM Marsh campus on Barkhill Road, near the border of Mossley Hill and Aigburth. Crews found an unoccupied student accommodation building measuring about 100 by 20 metres, with a “well developed” fire in the roof, and began fighting the blaze. Eight fire engines and an aerial appliance were involved, and Merseyside Police managed cordons on nearby roads. Residents were told to keep doors and windows closed and to avoid the area while utilities were isolated. A spokesperson for LJMU said the fire was contained, the site had been vacated since 2020, and no casualties were reported.
