Emirates refusing to take delivery of first 10 Boeing 777X jets

Emirates says it will not take delivery of the first 10 Boeing 777X jets, citing major compliance and modification issues. In comments to The Telegraph at the Farnborough International Airshow, Emirates president Sir Tim Clark said the initial batch required “too many modifications” to meet current standards. Emirates ordered 270 777X aircraft at $440 million each, with the first jet built in 2019, and the airline has been waiting for roughly seven years amid repeated delays tied to design changes. Clark said, “We’re not taking that batch and that’s it,” adding that Boeing should handle any next steps for the planes. He referenced concerns including extensive airframe changes since early flights and a static-test failure. The 777X program has faced service-entry slips from 2020 to the earliest next year.
