Charles Barkley says Michael Jordan once advised him during early-1990s golf that could be worth roughly $50 million. Barkley, then earning about $3 million a year from Nike, recalled on the Dan Patrick Show in June 2025 that Jordan urged him to reduce his $3 million pay and take $1 million cash plus the rest in stock options. Barkley followed the advice after consulting his team, even though advisors warned it was risky. He later said the move helped him make “probably another $50 million,” boosted by Nike’s growth and seven 2-for-1 stock splits since 1990. Barkley and Jordan later fell out in 2012.
