Etihad Nearing Deal to Order 10 Boeing 787 Jets, Sources Say
Etihad Airways is nearing a deal to order 10 Boeing 787 wide-body jets, according to industry sources, with an announcement possible as early as the Farnborough Airshow. The reports, dated July 8, link the potential announcement to the event in Britain scheduled for July 20-24, while stressing that negotiations are ongoing and a deal is not guaranteed. Etihad and Boeing declined to comment. Etihad CEO Antonoaldo Neves said last month the airline was considering a double-digit number of wide-body aircraft but did not specify further. The timing comes as Etihad restores flights after cuts made in March, when the U.S.-Israeli war related to Iran increased fuel prices. Reuters also notes Airbus said Middle East carriers are recovering amid a fragile ceasefire, with Gulf hubs returning toward normal traffic.
