Evan Rachel Wood explains why she isn't returning for 'Practical Magic 2.' Who stars in the new film?

Nearly 30 years after the 1998 romantic fantasy Practical Magic reached theaters, the sequel Practical Magic 2 is set to open on Sept. 11, with Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman reprising the Owens sisters. One major change is the absence of Evan Rachel Wood, who played Kylie, Bullock’s character’s daughter, in the first film. Wood says she wasn’t invited back despite offering to return. In a July 2025 Instagram story, she said production told her they would be recasting. At the Shards premiere in Los Angeles on Monday, Wood added she felt the approach didn’t match the book, and praised Joey King.
