Ex-Jets star Bryce Huff reveals why he retired from NFL at 27
Ex-NFL pass rusher Bryce Huff, formerly with the Jets, Eagles and 49ers, explained why he retired at 27 in March, moving from football to an environmental effort focused on lithium-iron batteries and fire risk. Now 28, Huff told The Athletic that the decision was a family choice and something he and his older brother, Jordan, had considered for years. He said the company they have been building, Naberstone, aims to reduce hazards associated with battery ignition and potential chain-reaction combustion. Huff and his brother have worked on the venture for over two years; it has six employees and has already secured one “pretty big” customer. He also said discussions are underway with entities including the U.S. military, a waste recycling company, and groups in Europe and Asia. Huff previously recorded 17.5 sacks in four seasons with the Jets, then signed a three-year, $51 million deal with the Eagles in 2024 and was traded to the 49ers in May 2025.
