FAA investigating Trump helicopter safety incident

The FAA is investigating a Tuesday afternoon incident involving Marine One, the helicopter used for President Trump’s expedited travel around Washington. According to the Wall Street Journal, controllers at Washington Reagan National Airport had not yet halted commercial flights, as protocol requires for Marine One departures. As a result, another jet departed around the same time and experienced a loss of standard separation from Marine One. Investigators say there was no near-collision, but the FAA is reviewing the incident. U.S. rules require 1.5 miles horizontal separation and 500 feet vertical separation. The FAA issued guidelines for commercial traffic during overflights after a January 2025 deadly collision.
