FAA's Mosaic Unleashes Minimalist Approach To Recreational eVTOL | Aviation Week

A new eVTOL concept called the PowerWing is moving toward U.S. “Mosaic” certification rules for light-sport aircraft, with the goal of starting with a first variant that the company expects to fly. Designer Mark Bettosini, through his June-founded company The Airplane Farm, plans three versions of a tailsitter-style vehicle that takes off and lands vertically using two electric engines. The first, the Harvest Commuter, is intended to be self-certified under FAA Part 22, with 84 kW takeoff power, 75 mph cruise speed, and 75-mile range. Its recumbent pilot uses two joysticks with fly-by-wire stabilization and automation for launch and landing. However, an ASTM simplified-control standard referenced for the approach hasn’t yet been completed or accepted by the FAA.
