Fighter jet crash sparks small fire at MCAS Miramar

An F-35B assigned to the 3rd Marine Aircraft Group 11 crashed at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar on Friday morning, sparking a small fire on the base. The incident occurred around 10 a.m., and Marine Corps spokesperson Capt. Steven Keenan described it as a “Class A mishap,” the category used for the most serious mishaps. The pilot, the only person aboard, ejected and was recovered, Keenan said, though it was not immediately clear whether the individual was injured. SkyRanger 7 footage showed the aircraft in at least two pieces on a scorched area about the size of a football field, with crews extinguishing flames. The cause was not yet known, and the story was still developing.
