Five crew remain missing after plane wreckage found in Pakistan

Five crew members remain missing after the wreckage of a Boeing 737 was found off Pakistan’s coast, aviation officials said. Pakistan’s Airports Authority reported that the aircraft, operated by K2 Airways, lost contact with air traffic controllers on Tuesday at 21:21 local time (16:21 GMT) after rapidly descending. Minutes before the descent, the plane had reported a navigation system problem, the authority added. The search involved air and sea assets for about 12 hours before debris was recovered roughly 53 nautical miles south of Ormara, a port town on the Arabian Sea. Ormara is about 360 kilometers (223 miles) west of Karachi, where the cargo flight began its journey. The aircraft was traveling from Karachi to Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates. Officials noted that Pakistan’s last major aviation incident was in 2020, when a Pakistan International Airlines flight crashed while approaching Karachi, killing 97 of 99 people aboard. No further causes were provided.
