Flight instructor jumped midair to his death, left student to land the plane

The incident highlights a shocking midair jump in Argentina, when a flight instructor reportedly left his Cessna 150 mid-flight and died after opening the door and exiting the aircraft. A 22-year-old student pilot, identified as Rosario, already held a pilot’s license and was able to safely land the plane. The event occurred Saturday over Toledo, in the Córdoba area, with authorities later impounding the aircraft. Federal Court of Córdoba officials are investigating the case, while details about why 42-year-old Leandro Andrés Bertazzo jumped were not released. Flying Parrot Córdoba director Eduardo Álvarez said the school only recently learned Bertazzo had been under psychiatric care and had no prior indication of any plan. Bertazzo had been a commercial pilot and worked for roughly a decade at the school, including earlier work in neighboring Chile.
