Flydubai co-pilot was inspired by 9/11 when he planned to crash into Israeli airport terminal: officials
xCruzo Brief
UAE prosecutors say a Flydubai co-pilot who attacked the captain of a flight to Tel Aviv last month planned to seize control of the aircraft and crash it into the passenger terminal at Israel’s main international airport. The suspect, identified by The Associated Press as 29-year-old Hamam al-Hammami, is an Omani national, and authorities said he acted alone and aimed to cause the “greatest possible number of human casualties.” Officials added that he drew inspiration from the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks and used two prior Dubai–Tel Aviv flights to learn the route and airport. The UAE took over the investigation shortly after the incident on Sept. 30.
