Frontier adds 3 Detroit routes previously run by Spirit
Frontier Airlines is adding three Detroit routes previously operated by Spirit after the carrier shut down at Detroit Metro Airport (DTW). Frontier began daily nonstop service from Detroit to Fort Lauderdale and Philadelphia this week, and will launch a daily route to Las Vegas on Sunday, July 12. The move follows Spirit, the airport’s most-used airline behind Delta, closing all operations in May. Frontier said introductory fares can be as low as $49, but the promotional tickets must be purchased by Sunday, July 12 and are valid for select nonstop travel dates between Aug. 3 and Sept. 2. The airline said it plans to keep expanding in Detroit and added former Spirit routes at Orlando, Kansas City, and Dallas-Fort Worth this week. The article also cited Cirium data showing average fares rose 23% after Spirit exited a route.
