Google has made a $10 million bid for Spirit Airlines’ corporate data, after the carrier ceased operations in May following back-to-back bankruptcies. Spirit’s liquidation left significant assets up for grabs, including aircraft leases and slot holdings at New York’s LaGuardia Airport, with parties now contesting how some records could be used. The Association of Flight Attendants (AFA), representing 5,500 former Spirit flight attendants, filed an objection to the proposed sale. Its lawyers argue that Google’s assurances—namely that the data would not include personally identifying information—don’t address worker confidentiality protections. A bankruptcy court is expected to rule in early September.
