Holiday travel is months away. You should book flights now, expert warns
xCruzo Brief
With Thanksgiving still about 85 days away and Christmas just over 110, a travel expert says holiday flights should be booked now rather than waiting. Clint Henderson of The Points Guy says guidance to buy domestic fares one to two months ahead and international three to six months ahead is “outdated” this year, largely because the war in Iran has pushed jet fuel prices higher. Airlines have responded with higher ticket prices, baggage fees, and fuel surcharges. The Points Guy and Points Path found Thanksgiving and Christmas flights up 13% and 18% year over year. Henderson expects prices to jump after Labor Day, with resort destinations like Aspen, Vail, Maui, and Honolulu typically the most expensive.
