International aviation recovery gathers pace as West Asia tensions ease; domestic demand remains resilient: Report says India’s airlines are seeing improving international conditions as tensions in West Asia ease, while domestic demand stays strong despite ongoing capacity growth. In an Equirus Securities aviation sector report cited by ANI, the gradual normalization of international operations helped restore international traffic. The report states that international passenger traffic for Indian carriers rose to about 2.3 million in May, up 24% from April. Sequential flight departures increased 22%, and the load factor improved to 76.6%. Domestic performance also remained robust, with passenger traffic reaching about 15.4 million in May—up 10% year-on-year and 11% month-on-month—while departures rose 5% year-on-year. Capacity measured by available seat kilometers increased 8% year-on-year, and load factor improved to about 85.9%. Fuel prices eased, but a weak rupee around 94.7/USD continued to pressure costs. IndiGo led domestically with 64.8% share, while its international share rose to ~52.5%.
