Iran Targeted U.S. Air Defenses Then Hit Aircraft And Buildings On Mideast Bases, AP Analysis Finds
An Associated Press analysis says Iran’s strikes across more than two dozen U.S. bases in the Middle East began by targeting early-warning systems, before moving to aircraft and buildings. Using satellite imagery from multiple providers and interviews with four regional officials, the AP found that through August, more than 115 drone or missile strikes claimed by Iran or Iranian-backed militias damaged or destroyed structures at 26 military bases and other U.S.-equipped sites. The report says Iran initially attacked aircraft hangars and detection systems to enable later strikes on warehouses and troop housing. Two officials said the damage forced the U.S. to relocate many assets out of the Persian Gulf, raising questions as Trump considers new strikes.
