Jet nosedives and erupts into fireball near busy roadway in South Florida. All 9 on board died
A Learjet 60 carrying nine people crashed into a neighborhood in South Florida on Sunday and “nose-dived” before exploding into a large fireball, according to U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy. He said everyone aboard died. Duffy posted that the crash occurred in Palm Beach County at 12:50 p.m., calling it a “horrific tragedy.” Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said there were no immediate reports of people on the ground injured or killed. Video showed flames around a crater and thick black smoke as the aircraft struck near a busy roadway, appearing close to homes. The FAA said the jet took off from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and was heading to the Bahamas. Air traffic recordings cited turbulence, icing, precipitation, and steep descent rates—up to about 30,000 feet per minute—along with overspeed concerns.
