Jetstar passengers could dodge extra fees during snap two-day strike

Jetstar passengers may be able to avoid some extra fees during a snap two-day strike tied to industrial action in Australia. The Australian Services Union (ASU) confirmed staff will walk out from 12:01am on September 23 until midnight on September 24. ASU national assistant secretary Scott Cowen said union members will keep working during protected industrial action, but won’t collect fees on the airline’s behalf. As a result, charges such as excess baggage, seat changes, late fees and other sales-related transactions will be waived or recorded as zero dollars by staff participating in the action. Jetstar said it continues talks with the ASU and is working toward a “constructive outcome.” The strike coincides with busy school holiday travel, including trips to Melbourne for the AFL Grand Final and holiday destinations in Victoria and Queensland.
